Case Study: EnviroVent – Fresh MMA Line Marking and Car Park Reorganisation

Project Overview

Fastline Services Ltd was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive line marking upgrade covering both the service yard and the car park. The goal was not just to improve the appearance of the site but also to create a more structured and safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians.

Client Overview

EnviroVent is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of ventilation systems, known for their high-quality products and innovative approach to air quality solutions. Their facility in Harrogate is a key operational hub, handling both manufacturing and distribution. With a busy service yard handling frequent deliveries and a large car park for staff and visitors, EnviroVent needed a solution to improve the overall safety, flow, and organisation of their external spaces.

The existing line markings had faded over time, causing confusion among drivers and pedestrians alike. Traffic flow was inefficient, and pedestrian safety was compromised due to the lack of clearly defined walkways and crossing points. EnviroVent approached Fastline Services Ltd to deliver a professional and long-lasting line marking solution that would improve both safety and efficiency across the site.

Challenges

Completing the work while the site remained operational was one of the biggest challenges. The team had to carefully plan the work schedule to avoid disruption to daily operations.

The existing markings had deteriorated significantly, which meant the surface preparation required extra attention to ensure the new markings would adhere properly and last long-term. The client also requested that the project be completed over the weekend to minimise the impact on staff and operations.

Our Solution

The key objectives across the service yard and car park were:

  • Service Yard: Install fresh MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) line markings to withstand heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions. Clearly mark out lorry bays and designated loading zones. Introduce hatched areas to prevent obstruction and improve traffic flow. Define safe pedestrian walkways with high-visibility markings and symbols. Install zebra crossings to enhance pedestrian safety.
  • Car Park: Implement a one-way traffic system to improve flow and reduce congestion. Markout for improved parking organisation. Add speed limit roundels and directional arrows to improve driver awareness.

1. Service Yard Transformation

The service yard was one of the most critical areas requiring attention due to the heavy volume of lorry traffic and loading activity.

We used MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) line marking material, which is known for its durability and resistance to wear and tear, even in high-traffic areas. The lorry bays were carefully measured and marked to optimise the available space while ensuring drivers had clear visibility of the boundaries.

High-visibility hatched areas were introduced to prevent parking in key operational zones, ensuring loading and unloading could be carried out without obstruction. Pedestrian walkways were marked using bright yellow paint and clear human symbols to guide staff and visitors along safe routes. Zebra crossings were installed at key crossing points to improve pedestrian safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

2. Car Park Reorganisation

To improve traffic flow, we introduced a new one-way system with directional arrows and clear road markings to guide drivers efficiently through the site.

Speed limit roundels were installed at key points to reinforce the traffic rules and promote safe driving. Reserved parking bays for visitors and staff were carefully positioned and marked with high-contrast white lines to make them easy to identify. The improved layout not only enhanced the visual appeal of the car park but also created a more organised and stress-free parking experience.

3. Pedestrian Safety Enhancements

Pedestrian safety was a top priority for EnviroVent. We installed high-visibility pedestrian walkways leading from the car park to the building entrance, ensuring staff and visitors could navigate the site safely.

We added clear human symbols and directional arrows along the walkways to maintain a consistent flow and prevent people from crossing into vehicle zones. The addition of zebra crossings further strengthened the safety of pedestrian movement across the site.

Results

The improvements delivered tangible benefits for EnviroVent:

Enhanced Safety: Clearly defined walkways and crossings reduced the risk of accidents. Improved Traffic Flow: The new one-way system reduced congestion and made it easier for drivers to navigate the site. Professional Appearance: The fresh, crisp line markings created a clean and professional look. Long-Lasting Solution: The use of MMA and pre-formed thermoplastic ensures that the markings will maintain their clarity and durability for years to come.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates Fastline’s ability to deliver tailored line marking solutions that enhance both safety and site efficiency. By combining durable materials, expert installation, and thoughtful planning, we helped EnviroVent create a more structured and secure working environment.
