Case Study: Euro Car Parts (LKQ) – T2 Facility Safety Enhancement

Project Overview
Fastline Services Ltd recently completed a major safety and efficiency enhancement project at Euro Car Parts’ (LKQ) T2 Facility. The scope of work involved the installation of high-performance polyaspartic resin line marking and state-of-the-art A-SAFE pedestrian and traffic barriers throughout the facility. This project aimed to improve traffic flow, enhance pedestrian safety, and create a more organised working environment.
Client Overview
- Client: Euro Car Parts (LKQ)
- Location: T2 Facility
- Industry: Automotive Parts Distribution
- Objective: Improve workplace safety and operational efficiency through clear pedestrian and traffic management systems
Euro Car Parts (LKQ) is a leader in the automotive parts distribution industry. The T2 Facility is one of their largest and busiest locations, handling high volumes of stock and vehicle movement. The need for a clear and effective safety and traffic management system was critical to improving both employee safety and operational efficiency.
Challenges and Objectives
Challenges:
- High volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic
- Risk of collisions between forklifts and pedestrians
- Poor visibility and inconsistent floor markings
- Need to install without disrupting daily operations
Objectives:
- Establish clear pedestrian walkways and vehicle routes
- Improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of accidents
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Minimise downtime during installation
Our Solution
Fastline Services Ltd provided a comprehensive solution combining high-quality line marking with robust impact protection systems:
1. Polyaspartic Resin Line Marking
Polyaspartic resin line marking was installed throughout the facility to create clear and highly visible pedestrian walkways, vehicle lanes, and crossings. The pedestrian walkways are clearly defined in high-visibility yellow, while the vehicle lanes help control forklift and machinery movement. Zebra-style crossings are positioned at key intersections to improve safety and traffic flow.
Polyaspartic resin offers several benefits, including high durability and resistance to wear and tear, fast curing for minimal disruption during installation, and strong chemical and impact resistance, ensuring long-lasting performance in demanding environments.
2. A-SAFE Pedestrian and Traffic Barriers
High-impact, flexible barriers were strategically installed to separate pedestrian walkways from vehicle lanes, improving safety and traffic flow. These barriers are designed to absorb shock and prevent injury, ensuring a safer working environment.
The installation included pedestrian barriers to protect walkways and workstations, traffic barriers to define forklift lanes and safeguard key equipment, and corner protection barriers to reduce collision damage at intersections.
3. Custom Safety Markings and Symbols
Directional signage and pedestrian symbols were installed to improve navigation and safety within the facility. High-contrast markings were applied to enhance visibility, ensuring clear guidance for both pedestrians and vehicle operators.
Safety zones were also created around key machinery and loading areas to reduce the risk of accidents and improve overall site safety.
Installation Process
The installation process was carefully planned and carried out in phases to minimise disruption to daily operations. The use of fast-curing polyaspartic resin allowed for overnight installation, ensuring that the facility could resume normal activities quickly. The project was coordinated closely with facility management to avoid downtime and ensure a smooth and efficient installation process.
Results
Enhanced Safety
- Clear separation of pedestrian and vehicle areas
- Reduced risk of collisions and injuries
Operational Efficiency
- Improved traffic flow
- Increased productivity due to better-defined work zones
Long-Term Durability
- Polyaspartic resin withstands high levels of foot and vehicle traffic
- A-SAFE barriers maintain performance under repeated impacts
Conclusion
This project highlights Fastline Services Ltd’s expertise in delivering tailored safety and traffic management solutions for large-scale industrial facilities. The combination of durable polyaspartic line marking and A-SAFE barriers has created a safer, more efficient working environment at Euro Car Parts’ T2 Facility.
